Scope of this Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice is applicable to personal information that you provide to ABG in the United States.

This Privacy Notice does not apply to personal information you provide to any ABG entities located outside of the United States.

This Privacy Notice does not apply to personal information you provide to companies outside the ABG group of companies that may be affiliated with ABG, as those companies will have their own privacy notices.

Additionally, this Privacy Notice does not apply to those ABG-branded locations that are owned and operated by an independent licensee or franchisee. Each independent licensee and franchisee collects, uses and discloses personal information for its own purposes and pursuant to its own privacy notice. ABG does not control the independent licensee’s or franchisee’s use of this personal information. For credit card transactions, the independent licensee or franchisee – not ABG – collects and processes credit card information and receives payment for the vehicle rental services. Thus, the independent licensee or franchisee is subject to the merchant rules of the credit card processors it selects. This Privacy Notice also does not apply to an independent licensee’s website. Licensees and franchisees may also use email campaigns and other methods of telephone, electronic, and direct mail solicitation without our consent or knowledge and are solely responsible for their content and methods of identifying and contacting addressees. These licensees and franchisees are solely responsible for complying with Privacy Laws.

Consent

When you submit your personal information to us, we obtain your express or implied consent to the collection, use, retention and disclosure of your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Notice and any additional information provided to you at the point of collection.

We or an unaffiliated service provider may process and/or store your personal information, as permitted by this Privacy Notice, outside of the United States. Your personal information will be also be subject to the laws of those other jurisdictions, including, in certain circumstances, requirements to make production of or provide access to your personal information to courts, law enforcement agencies, regulatory agencies or security authorities in those other jurisdictions. At any time, you can opt-out of our use and disclosure of your personal information for marketing purposes and customer satisfaction surveys, and/or withdraw your prior consent for the same.

How We Collect Your Information

We may collect your personal information directly from you by telephone, fax, postal mail, email, at the counter, upon completion of an application or enrollment form, or through your use of our website or the Internet (including using our online reservation system). To the extent you use our website, we may also collect information (both personal and non-personal information) about your use of our website, transactional and account information, e-mail and other information related to communications to our website.

You may choose not to provide some or all of your personal information to us, but this may prevent us from providing our services to you, or limit our ability to provide you with the level of service that you would otherwise expect from us.

We may also collect personal information about you indirectly through a travel agent, an account program in which you or your employer participates or through one of our partner programs when you deal with us through those means. Additionally, if you have consented to third parties selling or renting your personal information, we may obtain additional information about you from them, including demographic information, such as the number and ages of children, and financial information, such as income bracket. As the specific type of information will vary depending upon what consent you have provided to such third parties, you may contact us using one of the methods described below in order to get a list of the information about you.

What Personal information ABG Collects

When you make a reservation, rent a car, and/or join any of ABG’s programs, we collect certain information about you in order to provide our services, marketing and other purposes described in this policy. Here are some examples of information we collect about you:

  • Name
  • Email Address
  • Home and/or Business Address
  • Telephone Numbers at which we can contact you
  • Date of Birth
  • Payment Information (i.e. debit or credit card and expiration date – security code is obtained for transaction only and is not retained)
  • Information from and about your Driver’s License or other Government issued identification (e.g., Passport), including whether your license is valid and in good standing
  • Rental history with us, including any accidents with our cars
  • Communications with you relating to customer service inquiries and complaints
  • Information about your device such as the operating system version and application version

We may also need certain information from you when you request any of the following services and/or equipment: Special Needs/Optional Equipment, Special Offers/Discounts, Partner Member Numbers, use of an ABG preferred account number or discount number, Frequent Traveler numbers and Car Preferences. For example, if you wish to use a discount that ABG provides to members of an association to which you belong, we will collect information about your membership in that association, both to verify your membership and to provide you with the correct discount for our services.

In addition, to better serve our more frequent travelers, ABG offers customized rental services on a membership basis. If you wish to join and request one of these services, such as Preferred Service, President’s Club, Chairman’s Club, Avis Weekender Club, Avis First, AWD, Fastbreak, RapidRez, BCD, or other loyalty or membership program, ABG may need more information than is required for providing standard car rental service in order to provide you with these customized services.

When you rent a vehicle, we will also record non-personal information about your rental (e.g. where you rented the car, where and when you returned the car, payment arrangements, insurance preferences, gas consumption, mileage and other information related to the vehicle rental) in order to administer your rental reservation and/or process your transaction. Some of our rental locations are equipped with video monitoring for security purposes, which may capture your image while you are on our property. Notices are posted at these locations.

Limiting Use, Disclosure, and Retention

The purposes for which we use and disclose your personal information is provided in “How Personal Information is Used and Disclosed by ABG”.

We retain the personal information of our customers for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was originally collected and/or as long as necessary to meet any legal, auditing, or account requirements.

How Personal Information is Used and Disclosed by ABG

Usage

We strive to ensure that we give you a stress-free rental experience and are dedicated to building a rewarding and lasting relationship with every customer. To provide the level of service we believe you expect from us, we may use your personal information for the following purposes:

  • Provide and administer the services that you request, and communicate with you regarding such services and offerings;
  • Research, develop, manage, protect and improve our website and services;
  • Maintain and develop our service-oriented software and other business systems; and
  • Analyze data, or to have a third party do so on our behalf, in order to provide customized services and product offerings.

  • Keep track of the device the reservations came from.

Website Tracking and the Use of Cookies and Other Technologies

If you use our website, certain information may be collected from your computer in the course of your use of our website. ABG has two (2) primary uses for cookies. First, we use them to specify a user’s preferences.
